Your dream island
Cyprus, with its glorious year-round sunshine and beaches bordering the blue Mediterranean, is a paradise for the sun worshipper. It attracts a great number of visitors yearly, many of whom fall under the island’s spell. Drives around the island provide a rich variety of scenery, ranging from the pine-clad slopes of the Troodos mountain range, rising to a height of 2000 meters (the summit of which has skiing facilities) down through small villages and resorts to the fertile coastal plain girded by its many fine beaches and secluded coves.
The Paphos district is famous not only for its magnificent combination of mountain and coastal scenery but also for its ancient and historic monuments – within its environs is reputed to be the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, with the remains of her temple at Kouklia and the Baths of Aphrodite at Polis; the beautiful monastery of St. Neophytos nestling high in its mountain setting; the Roman ruins in Paphos town itself; and the many churches and monuments dating from Byzantine and Crusader times.
Cyprus is also famous for its fine wines and sherries, as well as its lace and embroidery. Cyprus has been described as a dream island, and its people, most of whom speak English, have become renowned for their hospitality and friendliness.
